Wrestling blogs are like assholes: everyone has them (or however that saying goes).
If you’ve been in the wrestling Twitter space for long enough , you’ve probably encountered at least one person with a wrestling blog. Some of them are fantastic, others you may find miss the mark, but the fact remains that there are an abudance of them; some would even argue a surplus.
So, why am I starting this?
The honest and simple answer to that question is two reasons: I love to write, and I love professional wrestling.
I’ve been enamored with the art of writing since my first encounters with journalism in my sophomore year of high school, writing album and film reviews for my school newspaper. Over the course of that year it really dawned on me that not only is writing something that I like to do, it might just be something that I’m pretty good at.
Writing about wrestling is a relatively new venture for me. Thanks to the lovely people over at Violent People, I’ve had the opportunity to try my hand at tackling some of my favorite wrestlers and matches, and will continue to do so over there as I love the stuff they’ve put out in such a short amount of time. I’d like to say that I’ve done these sentimental favorites justice, and I do appreciate how well-received my work has been over there, but I am, essentially, a novice in this world, which feels a little daunting when comparing myself to the best that we have in this space. With that being said, the only way to improve is to keep pushing ahead at it, and that’s exactly what I plan to do here.
Why wrestling?
Because nothing elicits the same emotions out of me. Nothing can make me feel so hollow and empty, yet simultaneously so full of happiness and excitement. The feelings of joy I get when I watch an evil, rotten motherfucker get his ass kicked is irreplacable for me. I love to write about music, about film, about comics, but none of those things truly have my heart in their hands like professional wrestling does. My ultimate goal with this is to properly convey what makes great wrestling, great wrestling and why you should care even if you don’t live and breathe this shit like I do.
So, what will I be covering on this blog? Well, aside from match reviews (obviously), I plan on introducing a big project of mine in the coming days. Additionally, I hope to introduce lists when I feel it necessary, be it for a big year-end list like my friend Corwo does on his blog, or maybe even my own GWE list come 2026 if the world is still kicking by then. I plan on making this blog uniquely my own, and I’m excited to share with you all what I have planned.
Lastly, some of you may wonder, why did you chooose to name your blog fujiwarasmirk? It’s a fair question, and to that question I have to respond with a question of my own: have you ever seen that motherfucker stare down an absolute world-beater and smile that smug smile of his, as if he’s never been in danger at any point? It’s pretty goddamn sick, man.
